Cornish Honey Rum form the team at Mounts Bay Distillery
We are lucky enough to have amazing honey suppliers, the honey is sourced from hives dotted around the Cornish coastline. With it being local honey, the honey rum changed with the seasons, from light and floral to a more dark and malty flavour depending on whats in bloom for the bees. Each batch of our rums are as different as the honey they contain and no batch is ever the same, we believe this is part of the beauty to small craft distilling rather than using a commercial honey or bought in mass produced rums.
Honey rum is a type of rum that is infused with honey to give it a sweet and rich flavour. It is also sometimes called "honeyed rum" or "honey rum liqueur." Our rum is made by infusing rum with honey, which is typically done by adding honey to the rum and allowing it to steep for a period of time. The longer the rum is infused with honey, the stronger the honey flavour will be. Our rums are also barrel-aged, which imparts additional flavours and complexity to the final product.
In addition to its sweet and rich flavour, Honey rum also has some potential health benefits.
Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which may provide some health benefits when consumed in moderation. Additionally, rum is made from sugarcane and is a natural source of antioxidants and polyphenols, which can help to reduce inflammation and protect against cellular damage.
Honey rum is also a versatile spirit that can be used in a wide variety of cocktails. Some popular honey rum cocktails include the Honey Bee, which is made with honey rum, lemon juice, and soda water, and the Rum Runner, which is made with honey rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and grenadine. Honey rum can also be used in classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned or the Mai Tai.
